Over 30 years ago, Yirgacheffe coffee faced a crisis when it was misclassified as Sidama coffee, leading to smuggling, market confusion, and a dilution of its reputation. Determined to preserve the region’s unique identity, Mr. Reta and one of the merchants advocated tirelessly for the Coffee and Tea Development Authority. Their efforts succeeded in officially distinguishing Yirgacheffe coffee, safeguarding its legacy for future generations.
